Well first off congrats Di on getting a "real" job, she's the first among us (well except for Kris) who has started working outside the bubble that is "school joe-jobs". Also her job doesn't sound like it has anything to do with Enterprise rent-a-car, so she's way ahead of the game (and all those poor commerce grads who end up working there after they grad, god bless them). Anyhoo, I've actually started to think about what my future plans are going to be for after my year with HESS. So far everything is pretty good, obviously not great or else a second year with them could be an option. My life right now pretty much centers around working, and a large majority of my work time is unpaid. But I guess that kind of comes with the teacher territory. You kind of have to prep and know what you're going to teach to little ones before hand....and then mark their homework and tests. So far I'm really liking teaching. Especially to 5-8 year olds. They don't have attitude yet, and they can communicate a lot easier than my little 3 and 4 year olds. I really love most of my kids (except for my damn N9 class, the awkward years are not kind to the students here), but I especially love my kindie kids. The thing I'm not liking though is that I don't really have enough time to explore and plan any trips. HESS does give us time off, but the problem is that I'm on the bottom of the totem poles here so I can't time off around the major holidays. I'll prob work on x-mas....bam humbug. For this year that's fine, since I am however planing on fully embracing Halloween. Today I went to the Toys R Us here which is super fun, and I got part of my costume. I'm planning on being a mouse, because my kindie kids favorite book is about a little mouse and a big hungry bear. It should turn out to be cute. I can't really have a scary costume because it would prob make all my kids cry all day, not fun.
But back to my life plans, yeah I still don't really know what I want to do, but I do know now that I'm ready to start thinking about it. 3 months ago there was no way in hell I was even thinking about grad school, or anything like that, whereas now it's a possibilty for sure. I'm also thinking that I might move to Japan next year and teach there. We'll see, these are just ideas for now.
I had fun though last night. Japie and I went out to a sushi restaurant downtown, and I introduced him to the wonderful world of salmon sashimi. After my Focus class (higher level class) yesterday afternoon I went for lunch at a restaurant beside my place. It's like a mini hot pot place. They give you a little barbeque thing on the table and a metal bowl full of soup, seafood, and veggies. 2 of the Chinese teachers from my bushiban school were there and they helped me order, which turned out to be pretty interesting. I ate this purple rectangle block of rice in it, which looked like rice and bean curd. It tasted pretty yummy actually, well last night I was telling Japie about it, and I guess he has ordered from that place before and it turns out that rice block thing is actually rice with congealed blood. Yeah..the joys of Taiwan. Anyhoo, it tasted good, and I haven't really decided if I'll eat it again, but we'll see. When in Rome. Here are some pictures from that lovely restaurant and of downtown Hsin Chu at night. Enjoy.

PS- Coconut pocky is really really good, if you can find it back home buy some because it's really good. Not congealed blood good, but good. (lol, sorry I couldn't resist)

All your adventures sound so fun. I am sitting in the law library for the 5th or 6th day in a row... I have lost count. My only adventure is if my crush will actually asked me out. For a hot guy he has no moves.
It is too bad that you haven't been able to travel as much as you want. I found that when I was in Scotland. I think I worked for several months before being able to take some time off after Christmas... and I had to work New Years.
I am also embracing halloween this year. I am going to be a cop, complete w/ fishnets and hooker boots. My guy friend Andrew is my prisoner. We got him an orange jumpsuit and shackles. It should be a lot of fun. I have done nothing for years. I will send pictures.
Miss you lots. xoxoxoxo
Hiiiii!
Well I am glad to hear you are enjoying teaching. I know you said before you'd never think of doing the BEd... but has anything changed??
I'm glad to hear Erin is going as a cop for Halloween!! That was my suggestion for her. :D I was thinking of going as a cop... right now my costume will either be an 80's widow (I found this AWESOME black 80's dress at Salvation Army) or "sexy bike cop" (think the traditional sexy cop uniform, but with bike shorts and a helmet). Both are fun... I can't decide!
So I didn't get a summer 2007 law job. Boo to that. Oh well, at least I have some great interview experience for next year, when it really counts. I kind of took it badly though, getting SUPER hammered on Friday and making an ass out of myself (as you know, since we talked briefly on MSN at 9:30pm, because I could only make it out in public until 9).
Anyway, I hope you get more of a chance to travel soon! And don't worry, your furniture is doing great. :D

Lindsay, post a pic of this Japie character! I want to put a face to a name!
well things are going well for me. Just getting frustrated not knowing what my life has in store for me. this time next year I could be anywhere. or nowhere.
Anyway... would love to talk to you on the phone. If I wanted to call you, what number would i call?
Love, Kat
Hey!!
I'm glad your having fun in Taiwan...It sucks that i'm not going to see you at christmas or go shopping with you and Shannon on boxing day....Maybe next year!!!
Miss you!!!XOXOXO
Love,
Kendall
Hi Lindsay,
Thanks for the postcard...very pretty there - it lives on our fridge...now it looks like we actually know "cultured" people who travel! We are just busy, busy with the arrangements for our move. Saw the condo for the first time today - can you say white. We will make it pretty though - Kendall came up with the idea of painting one wall in each room a different color. We are thinking chocolate brown and red.
Glad to hear you are enjoying teaching - I think working with the little ones would be very fun. Kendall is wondering what to do after she graduates - any suggestions?
Anyway, have a good "scarry" weekend!
Love sis
Yo bitch,
So, I got the postcard. I enjoy the way stick figures of us still look exactly the way they did when we drew them in grade nine.
Oh, Julie has her wedding pictures up on her hi5. I can send them to you if you'd like - Jeremy and I were passing them back and forth and laughing.
Kendall's comment made me nostalgic. Maybe the Bunkers will show up in my living room singing "Thhhhoooose were the dayyys..."
Anyway, I need to go pull my cookbooks away from Greg. He's fasting for his colonoscopy tomorrow, and he has one of our Thai cookbooks and keeps pointing out every recipe. It's like porn for him. Toodles.
I finally learned what a blog is and how to connect with yours today. I love reading about your adventures and they remind me of my travels in Africa when everything was so new and exciting. I was 28 then but the difference was I was travelling with husband and children 4, 5, &6. Can you imagine how different that would be for you!
I will lookforward to reading about how you see things so keep up the prose. You are able to paint a great picture of your life and reactions ther. The best part is I get to see your pictures, too.
I am still thrilled to live in Mexico and next month our bridge club is off to the Panama on a 10 day cruise stopping in 5 countries. I love to travel but also am limited like you with budget restraints.
I am starting to volunteer in a village 45 minutes from here where I work with the physically challenged using my OT.PT, and Psychotherapy skills. mY FIRST CHALLENGE IS AN 8 YEAR OLD DEAR GIRL who
has never been able to walk, sit, hold her head up, chew, talk, see more than shadows or hear much. I have got One of the strollers that joggers use with the big wheels which are great on the rough ground in her village. The mother is single and has no job, as well as a new baby 7 months old. So the mum can no longer go anywhere because she needed to carry both of them, an impossibility. I teach Rural English to grade two and three children in the village and now Terry is getting involved this week trying to put in the towns first computer and to teach the teachers how to use it with the students. Only one teacher has any english at all and that is very rudimentary. You can imagine what fun that will be as each person experiences the computer for the first time.
I hope you continue to explore every corner of Taiwan and it's culture and your responses to the differences, and continue to challenge yourself in your future plans. You remind me so much of my curiosity and desire to travel so I will continue to want to hear all about your travels, geographically and personally. With much love Judy
